The primary aim of yoga is to restore the mind to simplicity and peace, to free it from confusion and distress. This sense of calm comes from the practice of asanas (postures) and pranayama (breathing). Unlike other forms of exercise which strain muscles and bones, yoga gently rejuvenates the body. By restoring the body, yoga frees the mind from the negative feelings caused by the fast pace of modern life. The practice of yoga fills up the reservoirs of hope and optimism within you. ....................................... B.K.S. Iyengar |

To gain maximum benefit from your yoga you should consider the following: |
PERSONAL COMFORT |
· Yoga is best performed with empty bowels and bladder· It is advisable not to eat a heavy meal within 2 hours of the start of your class, or a light meal within one hour. · Wear loose comfortable clothing, and remove any dangling jewellery. · Please ensure all phones are switched off for the duration of the class. · Please bring a yoga mat, or a blanket to lie on. You may also find cushions and blocks useful. An extra blanket may be useful for relaxation in the cold weather. · If you have a heavy period or a bad cold, head down and inverted postures may be uncomfortable; you will learn plenty of alternatives to use. |
