FIRST AID ~ BWY Requirement for
First Aid Certificates |

I have recently been in contact with
Pierre Bibby (CEO) and Paul Fox (NISTO) regarding 1st Aid Certs. As most
of you are aware, Personal Liability Insurance with the Wheel is only
valid if you hold a current 1st Aid Cert. Without one you are not
insured. |
The first point to make and remember this
comes from the p.t.b.-powers that be- not me (Please don't shoot the
messenger!) is that it is the teacher's responsibility to obtain a valid
certificate, not the Wheel's because it is the teacher that is insured
not BWY. If someone asks you why you haven't got a 1st Aid cert you
can't reply that the Wheel hasn't laid on a 1st Aid Course. It's down to
you. |
Secondly, of all the certificates
available, which are acceptable to our insurers Perkins Slade? The
answer is that it is the Wheel that decides this not P.S. In other words
what we accept, they accept. OK, so which are they? Paul Fox tells me
that we accept certs from any organisation that offers a minimum 5-hour
course and issues 3-year certs. Yes, but what about content (syllabus if
you like)? |
Apparently the BWY (and NISTO) do
not consider themselves competent to devise 1st Aid courses, nor lay
down criteria regarding content. So whoever provides the course writes
it. I hope this is helpful. |
